Private tour of the museum behind closed doors

With more than 1,400 paintings, 600 sculptures and 15,000 drawings, the Museum of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando is one of the great art galleries in Spain. Its collections cover five centuries of art history, from the Renaissance to the most contemporary trends of the 21st century, and bring together masterpieces from the Spanish, Italian and Flemish schools. Spread over three floors and 59 rooms, this unique museum offers a unique look at the evolution of Western art through an exceptional collection. In addition to its pictorial and sculptural collection, it houses a remarkable selection of decorative arts —tapestries, watches, silverware, ceramics, furniture and medals— that enrich the experience. Officially inaugurated in 1986, the museum has evolved over time to offer an innovative and accessible museum proposal. The expansion of its space in 2002 allowed the addition of a third floor, an assembly hall for 100 people and a warehouse that can be visited, thus integrating conservation and dissemination. In recent years, the museum has completely renewed its exhibition discourse, culminating in the creation of the New Goya Cabinet: a unique space that presents, for the first time to the public, the complete collection of original plates by the Aragonese master — a jewel of the world's artistic heritage. A cultural experience behind closed doors, ideal for those looking for a visit serene, deep and exclusive to one of the great temples of art in Madrid. Check schedules and conditions.
